What is ultimate?

We made it back from NC okay. We were met with very kind hospitality at each place we visited, and the Lord gave us strength throughout what was one of the busiest Sundays we have ever experienced on deputation – going to two churches 80 miles apart will cause that. We're home now – the girls have colds and we're all a little tired, but that's okay.

But to get to the title of this post – we're having to remind ourselves often about what truly is of ultimate importance right now. Getting the rest of our financial support so we can finish deputation and leave for Wales is not, and never will be, the thing that is of ultimate importance in our lives. Don't get me wrong, Marcia and I could probably assemble a pretty long list of reasons why we think it would be a good thing for us to be finished with deputation and on our way to Wales. BUT, while we work and wait on the Lord to bring that to pass, we have far more important things to be considering. For example, I've been convicted lately about Paul's statement in Philippians, written, from a Roman prison: “my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel” (Phil 1.12). If Paul's circumstances in prison could result in the progress of the gospel, can our time of waiting to leave for Wales have the same result?

Now, evangelism, in and of itself is not an ultimate objective either. But we know that evangelistic usefulness while waiting to leave for the mission field is one way to glorify the Lord during our deputation ministry, and glorifying the Lord is our ultimate objective – here or in Wales. So please pray for us, that we would be able to glorify the Lord while we wait on Him to send us to Wales.
