Has it been three weeks already? Actually, so much has happened in the last three weeks that we can hardly believe we have been in Wales only this long. We are grateful for your prayers, as we have seen the Lord's provision for us in so many ways. Making so many decisions in such a short span of time, we have had to trust that the Lord will keep us from anything foolish. It's been strange. I mean, who moves, buys a car, paints the living room, buys a washer and dryer, learns to drive, buys kitchen appliances, buys car insurance, opens a new bank account, closes and opens a new credit card account (someone got our card #), signs up for all their utilities, joins a new church, etc., etc., etc. all in three weeks' time in a new country? I can't even imagine doing all this in another language. The Lord gives you grace for whatever He calls you to do, it's true. I have a whole new sympathy for my fellow missionaries in non-English speaking fields.
If you haven't guessed by now, our main focus so far has been getting settled here in Wales. We are thankful, however, for a few opportunities to speak to folks about the Lord. However, as expected, we have also encountered a lot of disinterest from people when they learn why we have come to Wales. I think it will mainly take a lot of time and prayer to open doors with people.
This Saturday we are having a “coffee morning.” Many clubs and organizations host coffee mornings with the goal of raising money. Usually, the people involved invite passersby into a nearby building for some coffee or tea and a snack, for a small entrance fee. There might even be a rummage sale involved. Our coffee morning will be a little different in that there will be no entrance fee or rummage sale – no fund raising whatsoever. It is just a time to mingle with people and, at this time of year, speak to them about Christmas and invite them to our carol service to be held later this month. On my last visit to Wales we held a coffee morning and there were at least 50 people that came through during the morning, and a handful who were willing to talk about spiritual things with us. Please pray for this endeavor.
