Snow!

It may not look like much, but snow of any kind tends to be a big deal around here. It has something to do with the fact that we live on the water, because, supposedly, it snows a lot more often just a few miles to the south (inland). The shots to the right don't show it much (can you see it at all?), but it has really been coming down at various points during the day, and we actually had some accumulation on the sidewalks this morning. Also, note the absence of people in these pictures. That wasn't really intentional, but it kind of pictures one very real challenge we have. In the winter months, people don't go out a whole lot, so finding meaningful interaction with folks out in the community can be a challenge. And we have found so far that people don't exactly light up when we say that we would love to have them into our home sometime. Extreme friendliness on our part tends to be more of a cause for suspicion than anything else. So, we are learning to be patient in building relationships with people.

On a completely different topic…we've been doing some thank you note-writing lately (still need to catch up), and I just have to say it: we are overwhelmed at the faithfulness and generosity of those who support us. I mean it – it is humbling almost to the point of embarrassment sometimes. And what is especially humbling is that we ourselves cannot possibly “repay” everyone. I can't preach enough, witness enough, or do anything else missionary-ish enough to earn our support. All we can do is be faithful and trust that the Lord will repay those who have given – not that He owes any of us anything or that we can give Him anything that He needs.
