We had a religious event take place in the streets of Abergele last Sunday. Led by St. Michael’s, the Anglican church, most of the Abergele churches combined on Sunday to stage a Palm Sunday march. The march began at the Anglican church, proceeded down the town’s main street (and right under our living room window), and rounded the corner to finish up at the Catholic church just a block or so away from our flat. I think they gave small crosses (or maybe palms) to the few onlookers that were about. It’s strange – although there were a lot of people out and about on Sunday, there was no one in sight during the time of the march.
The pictures at right give a fair representation of the religious population in the UK – very small numbers and mostly older. The entire group represents the congregations of at least 3 churches in our town and perhaps more. I really don’t know what a non-Christian bystander would have learned from the march, and I don’t think any of the churches involved even preach a biblical gospel. One consolation for us is that we don’t face the challenge of countering the influence of false religion in people’s lives. Most don’t have any religion to begin with! At least, they don’t have the organized kind.
