We finished up the holiday club today – what a busy week! Overall, we were pretty happy with how things went. We could have handled a few more kids than we had, but for the first time it was okay. I think our high day drew an attendance of 7, not counting our own children. We did, however, see a lot of progress in our relationship with one family in particular, whose children attended the club every day. So, we were glad to see the progress of the gospel in the lives of some unsaved kids and their parents, and I think our experience with this club is a good building block towards developing more consistent ministry among children and young people.
One thing we found was that advertising a “Holiday Bible Club” is not typically going to be a big draw unless the people you are inviting already know you. So, one thing we need to work on is finding ways to make contact with children and families in a “non-ministry” context to open doors later on for the gospel (a recurring theme for us). Marcia is working on a number of friendships with mums in town, but their children are mostly the age of our own – too young to invite to a Bible club.
