Happy Bank Holiday!

Today is a bank holiday. When Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) falls on a weekend, here in the UK we have a bank holiday on the following Monday, to make sure that we are not cheated out of a day off. That’s fine with us – a day off is always nice.

Since everyone has the day off, we are hosting a drop-in at our house this afternoon. In addition to church folks, I think we will be having a fair number of non-church people as well, which is always wonderful. We want that kind of contact as much as possible.

In other news, our Christmas Day service went well. We had a packed house (around 40), with at least a few visitors from the area who came on their own initiative. In fact, we ran into one visiting couple the very next day while out shopping in another town about 10 miles away. Perhaps that was the Lord not wanting them to forget us.:-)

Overall, we have been pleased with the opportunities that the holidays have presented for meeting neighbors. It’s customary for neighbors to give cards to one another (usually through the mail slot). We took the opportunity to introduce ourselves as we gave out our cards along with bags of Marcia’s increasingly famous homemade shortbread.

A lot of other reflective, year-in-review kind of thoughts come to mind right now, but I’ll have to save them for later as I’m supposed to be helping prepare for our drop-in.
